“Technology should not only belong to the people who can afford it. It should create opportunities for ordinary people, young people, entrepreneurs, schools and communities.”
Joseph Jjuuko, Founder & Executive Director, Emetack Uganda
A dream that refused to die
The dream started in Uganda with very little capital, limited resources and no powerful investors. We began small, worked from rented spaces, used whatever equipment was available and kept moving forward even when things became extremely difficult.
There were times when we thought the dream was over. There were moments when the business had to close its doors because we could no longer afford to operate. But every time we fell, we started again. We failed. We learned. We rebuilt. And we kept believing. Today we are still standing, having worked with businesses, organisations, schools, students and individuals on software development, websites, mobile applications, graphic design, digital training, hosting, business systems and other ICT solutions.
The bigger dream
Uganda has a young population full of talent, creativity and ambition. Yet many young people do not have access to the computers, internet, practical training, mentorship and technology resources they need to turn their ideas into opportunities.
We want to build a Digital Skills and Innovation Centre where young people can learn, create, experiment, develop businesses and use technology to solve real problems in their communities, training people in:
- Computer applications & digital literacy
- Software and web development
- Artificial intelligence
- Graphic design & digital creativity
- Entrepreneurship
- Business technology
- Digital marketing
- Database & information systems
- Mobile technology
- Innovation & problem-solving
Why we are asking for your help
We have the passion. We have the experience. We have the vision. What we need now is support to build the foundation for the next chapter: facilities, computers, internet infrastructure, learning equipment, furniture and the resources required to run a sustainable digital skills and innovation centre, and to expand our technology operations so we can create more jobs and train more young people.
One computer can teach a person a skill. One skill can create an opportunity. One opportunity can change a family. Thousands of opportunities can help transform a generation.
